Camp Bentzon Kawau Island Recount writing

Walt: summarise a week long experience into a recount.

Last week we had our own year 6 camp at Kawau Island. This camp was called camp Benzton. It was called camp Benzton by it’s owner who has passed away. This camp has a volleyball court outside and it has a cool park with a slide, a flyingfox and a tunnel.


We first met in the hall at 7 o,clock in the morning.  At about 7:15 am we started loading the bus with our bags and we also got on the bus ourselves. After we loaded the bus and set off to Sandspit. When we got there we get off the bus and started unloading the bus. Then we had morning tea. After morning tea we started loading the ferry.


When we got to Kawau Island we waited to get off the ferry. We can unload the ferry. We left our bags outside under shelter. We went for a long hike for about an hour and then came back and settled into our little cabin groups. In my cabin I had Inez, Akosita, Lotu, and Cameo.

The next day we had activities planned to do. We did the confidence course, burma trail, orienteering, abseiling. We first started with the confidence course. Then we did a scary burma trail. Then a really really really long walk  doing orienteering. The we did a really scary climbing challenge abseiling.


The Next we did Kayaking first that was so scary why because we saw eagle-rays and sting rays. Then we did Raft making we didn’t even float that far. After that we did bivouac. Our last activity was sailing that was really scary.

This camp was really fun and exciting and scary. We really miss Kawau Island when look at photo of Kawau Island we want to go back.

Bees reflection

Have you seen a beehive in real life? Well us lucky yr ⅚ extension group got  to see one in real life with Rose-Mary Weir. We have learnt so much from this session with Rose-Mary Weir.

We have learnt that bees can fly three miles or more if there is more food ahead. We also learnt that worker bees produce half of a teaspoon of honey in there lifetime. When Rose showed us the beehive we all went and looked at all the bees inside the beehive.


Rose told us that German wasp is not friends with the bees so the German wasp kill the bees by stinging them. The paper wasp are friends with the bees which means that they don't kill them.

Adaptation

WALT:define adaptaion.

An adaptation is a mutation, or genetic change, that helps an organism, such as a plant 
or animal, survive in its environment. Due to the helpful nature of the mutation, it is passed down from one generation to the next.

      Adaptation means when an animal adapts they will survive. It also means that us humans             
       can adapt to.

     Some lizards adapt by camouflaging themselves to the color the are close to.

Egg races

WALT: think about my purpose and reader by planning my recount.


Yesterday we did a difficult egg race. We had to race to one side of the park to the other swithing it over to our partner. It was fun watching them.

Before the race had started it was nervrackikng. All of us was scared because we might have cracked the egg. We were all ready to start some of us were shivering saying “ i’m going to drop it”.


The race had began our partners were taking there time trying not to drop it. Some were close to finishing 1 team of partners droped there egg just before they finished. My partner Alfa was slow and steady zig -zaging through the park  he had finished.


It was now challenging for as it is my turn. It took the spoon and placed the egg gently  on the spoon. I went off walking over the old wodden brown platforms in the park I was finding it difficult to try not to drop. When i was close to finishing the difficult egg race I run a little bit.


It was funny and difficult. This was really a challenging walking over old wodden brown platforms the egg was fragile i was really gentle. Some of us bumbed into each other.

Today we learnt how to write purpose. To write our paragraph we did egg racing, we learnt how to write about our topic and don't write about something else.

Tau's Loofahs

Today we learnt how to write a review about our original task. We partnered up with our classmates and discussed the questions that we were given. Today it was about loofahs how we use them, what they are a rate for the loofahs, so what would your review be about the amazing loofahs sold and the beautiful place Samoa. Please leave a comment or feedback of what I need to work on.

What am i ?

WALT: Use our inferencing skills to find meaning in the text.
For a little writing/reading activity, we wrote poems that explained something when it sounded like something else. We paired up and wrote a poem that was like an example that we saw. I tried this to some people and they guessed it in the end. I hope that you can try to guess it and get it right

Team 4 Market Day


WALT: write an interesting and detailed recount

Last week we had a  team 4 market day on friday aspart of the topic of the term Trade and enterprise. Everyone got to buy everyones product with PTs and peices. PTs and peices is our currency we have 20 pecies, 50 peices, 1 pt and 2 pt.

There are 6 different groups and they are Homeware, Toys, Kitchen, Jewelry, Custom stationery and Musical intruments. For Trade and Enterprise, my group is making food products so that means i’m in kitchen. We are making sweets like Cups of Hot chips. In my group are Tevita and me. We get on well together because we are best friends we also are off task sometimes but we get work done. We are hoping to sell 15 cups of Hot chips. Each cup of Hot chips is going to be sold for 2 PT.

To set up where we were going to cook we decided to set up by the class window because we needed to use the frying pan. We only used 2 desks. 1 desk was for the frying pan and the other desk was for all the PTs and the preparation.

When i went to go buy something from the trade and enterprise groups i bought a badge, pencil label and a sport maths book cover from the custom stationary and i also brought 11 loom band from the Jewelry and accessories, and i also brought 2 ice blocks from the kitchen.

Whan I was maning the station me and my buddy sold at least I think 12 cups of Hot Chips. We had only 1 full container and a half full container half of the chips were already in the frying pans. He had 1 customer miss out because we had sold out really fast.

The market day was very exiting because we all had lots of fun. we also bought lots of things like pencil label a drum loom bands slime and much more. The market day was the bomb.

Task of description:
I have learnt how to make sense, and use proper English. I also had help with my friends, I learnt how to use language to make my recount more interesting. I made my story my interesting my using more new words. Please leave a comment or feedback.

Advice blog


We had to do a advice blog about why we should get fitness watches. A made up person named James Abel was wanting some ideas about which fitness watch he should get. Trade Fair

WALT: add one main idea per paragraph and Walt: use language that paints a picture in the mind of our reader.

Task of Description:
Today we learnt how to paint a picture in our readers mind, I also learnt how to use new vocab in our learning every day. The trade fair was a good example of our learning for our new Walt, it was pretty easy doing my work because it was good opportunity to experience. IT WAS FUN!!!

Maths teacher lesson week2

WALT: Add and subtract decimals
Last week in maths teacher lesson, we learnt how to add and subtract. We mostly looked at decimals and then we made them into fractions. For example; 2.4. The way I solve the question is by doing this; there is 2 and there 4/10, so if we add those together, it would equal to 2 and 4/10. So 2.4 in fractions would equal to 2 and 4/10's.

This week for reading we are learning about timber and Kauri trees. We had to read a story and we had to imagine ourselves in the story and we also had to imagine ourselves selling the item in our story which for me was a piece of Kauri furniture.

Maths Problem Solving Week 3: Term 3

WALT: add and subtract decimals
This week I have learnt to add and subtract decimals. Do you know how to subtract decimals? Well if you don't I will teach how to. So if Matt had a chip that was 0.57 long and then he cut of 0.07? The answer will be 0.50 because 0.57 - 0.007=0.50 so there you have it! I hope that you now know how to subtract decimals.
